Rear-view camera old news

That is the proposal of the Department of Transportation United States. The measure proposes that the system should be mandatory in all cars from 2014, although it would get progressively introduced before that date.
It is true that in the U.S. occur daily tragedies in which a clueless driver runs over a person to turn back. In fact, last year killed 300 people in that country, and over 18,000 injured as a result of such accidents.
The figures are even more painful when you consider that in 70% of cases, those involved were from the same family. That said, I have to implement a system as expensive as this is not the most reasonable solution.
Of course, in many vehicles is much improved visibility (particularly in SUVs so popular there), but the system is too expensive to think it may be possible to install in all new cars from 2014 (besides the camera would have to install a screen).
A security system should be mandatory when the benefits are significant enough to offset the cost, I do not think this is the case. We can not force brands to equip each and every one of the developments coming to market, would eventually lead to ruin, or prevent people with less purchasing power, buy a car. The balance is tricky, as always, but I think a mandatory rear-view camera is not reasonable.
